Living Greener

Cape Cassini Wilderness Retreat

If you would like to see sustainable lifestyle practices in action while enjoying a holiday, come and stay with us at Cape Cassini Wilderness Retreat on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

Eco Tourism

The retreat is self sufficient for water, collecting every drop of rainwater that falls on the roof areas. It also generates its own electricity from solar panels and a wind generator and less than 10% from a back up petrol generator.

When you visit, you will learn there are some disciplines that we need you to adhere to as guests, to help conserve resources. It is all part of the authentic experience of eco tourism.

However you will be surprised to also find that we aren’t much different to any other tourism accommodation in the comfort and facilities we have to offer and it is really very easy to become ‘green’ without making much impact on your lifestyle!

Cape Cassini Wilderness Retreat has:

  • Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation from Ecotourism Australia
  • Received Silver level Certification from Green Globes in November 2008 after submitting three years of benchmarking data. Green Globes is an international environmental group that monitors and accredits business footprints. The Retreat was assessed against their criteria on ten environmental indicators including water and energy usage. For data submitted in March 2008, the Retreat received an at or better than Best Practice rating for 9 out of 10 indicators which was cited as “a world class achievement.”
  • Received Bronze and Silver medals in the SA Tourism Awards Sustainable Tourism Category in 2006 and 2008
