Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Sustainable living is both a personal and professional passion of ours. We grow our own fruit and vegetables, our chickens roam the orchard floor and fertilise the fruit trees effortlessly, the lambs keep the grass down and help to reduce fire risk, the 3,500 native indigenous trees that we have planted protect the sheep and pastures from harsh weather, we power our home from the sun with solar panels on the shed roof. These are just a few examples or how we do our little bit for the environment by living a sustainable lifestyle. We are motivated by not only the benefits for ourselves, our animals and the land but so we can also impart our knowledge and experience with our children.

Our family of 4 humans, 2 fish, 1 turtle, 2 dogs, 2 budgies, 17 chickens, 14 sheep and (just recently) 1 orphan calf are creating a place where everything has a purpose, everything lends itself to the next thing. The ornamental grapes grow along the end of the house to create shade and cool in the summertime to reduce the need for air-conditioning. The grass in the paddock will be harvested into small square bales to feed the sheep and keep them warm in the wintertime as well as bedding for the chickens all year round.

We reuse and re-purpose loads of materials, wood, wire, plastic drums, old ladders, old swing sets. It’s all about using what you have lying around and reducing what goes to landfill or something that you may pick up from the tip or what your mate has thrown into the hard rubbish. Seeing the potential and rolling with it.

Ultimately, we want to leave the earth a better place than when we arrived (on the same day, same year!). Not only by physically changing the landscape for the better, not only by living sustainably and responsibly and making better consumer & gardening choices, but by teaching our kids that this amazing world is theirs to live in and look after.
